Breeding rabbits is a popular pastime in the Slavic peoples. Rabbit breeders understand how important proper nutrition is and try to provide the most complete diet. But for full growth and development, it is often required to take vitamins and minerals additionally. Especially if the animal does not have enough greens. There are many nutrients in special feeds, but often the owners themselves must provide the pet with additional minerals. Very nutritious for rabbits, lactic acid, let’s talk about the method of application and how to give it.
What is lactic acid?
Flavourless yellow liquid, has an acidic smack and is easily dissolved in water. Appears due to the fermentation of lactic acid bacteria of lactic and sugar-containing raw materials. It looks like a thick syrup. Acid is sold in a 40 percent concentration.
The drug is not new and has long been used for various purposes. First, they gave cows and horses to normalize the pancreas. At a certain time, they were used to disinfect farms and chicken coops. Now added to special feeds to increase shelf life.
For rabbits is of exceptional benefit. Strengthens the entire digestive system, promotes better and faster digestion, facilitates the negative effects of the consumption of roughage. Improves sexual activity, increasing the chances of fertilizing the female. Often used in rabbitry as a disinfectant.
Lactic acid owes its high popularity in veterinary medicine to its safety. Even if the recommended dose is exaggerated several times, it will not harm the animals.
The principle of lactic acid
Lactate is a natural metabolic product and is not able to harm. Fills the rabbit body with energy. It is allowed to give rabbits from 2 months of life. Lactic acid is used for the following purposes:
- They are added to feed for their disinfection, thus killing pathogens.
- Add to the diet to improve reproductive abilities.
- Give rabbits along with succulent feeds for better digestion. Prevents bloating and flatulence.
- The cure for coccidiosis and helminths.
- Antiseptic for animal skin.
Dosage and administration
The methods of application have already been mentioned above. Most often, lactic acid is given to rabbits in feed or drinking water, with its help they wipe the cage and equipment, burn wounds and growths on the skin, and treat rabbitry for prevention and disinfection. Each case has its own instruction and dosage.
First you need to dilute lactic acid in water. Make a 2-3% solution, one individual relies 4-7 ml.
With internal use, it corrects metabolism, increases appetite and reproductive functions, improves the microflora, and relaxes the gastrointestinal sphincters. Often given if the pet has eaten something spoiled. Useful for enteritis, gastritis, trichomoniasis and coccidiosis.
Lactic acid is given to rabbits at the age of 50 days. Dilute the acid as follows. Dilute one tablespoon in 5 liters of clean water, mix and pour into all drinkers.
Disinfect the feed, at the rate of 1 mg per 2 kg of feed. It does not matter how to breed, but the concentration should be 1-5%.
Lactic acid is used for injuries and skin diseases in rabbits. Depending on the situation, the dosage of the drug can vary greatly:
- Warts and calluses are cauterized with a 10–30% solution.
- For ulcers, a solution of 10–40% is needed.
- Neoplasms cauterize 20–25%.
- With dermatoses, a 10% solution is used.
A solution of lactic acid is sprayed not only on household premises and equipment, but also on rabbit meat. Thus, slowing down the development of bacteria and providing longer storage. At the same time, taste does not change. When viruses and diseases spread along rabbitry, it is sprayed with a solution of lactic acid at the rate of 2 tablespoons per bucket of water.
It is recommended once a year to carry out preventive spraying of sheds, pits, rabbitries and all equipment. Leave for half an hour, after which everything needs to be thoroughly ventilated and rinsed with residues. It is important to carry out similar procedures before and after a bout.
Since lactic acid is a completely natural product, there are no contraindications as such. Even if the instructions for use are not followed and the dosage is exaggerated 5-8 times, there are no adverse reactions. But you need to be careful with gastritis, kidney failure or peptic ulcer, as the product increases acidity.
